Are catch-all emails safe to send to?
Catch-all emails are not automatically safe or unsafe. The company's server accepts every address, so a normal check cannot prove the mailbox exists. Send to catch-all addresses that follow the company's email format and belong to people who still work there, in smaller batches.
Some companies set up their email to accept messages for any address at their domain: real, misspelled or made up. These are called catch-all or accept-all domains. They make email verification harder, and many tools simply give up and say "accept-all".
Why catch-all addresses are tricky
When a company accepts everything, the first answer is always "yes". The bad news only comes later: the message is quietly dropped, sent back as a bounce hours afterwards, or lands in a mailbox nobody reads.
That is why many verifiers mark every catch-all address as Risky and leave the decision to you.
How to decide which ones to send to
Look for signals that this particular address is real:
- It follows the company's email format. If everyone at the company is first.last@, then priya.sharma@ is far more likely to be real than psharma1985@.
- The person still works there. A public profile that shows the person at the company is a strong sign. A sign that they left is a strong reason not to send.
- The address was delivered to before. Earlier deliveries and bounces at the same company tell you a lot.
- The address appears on public pages together with the person's name.
How Domailfix handles catch-all
Instead of stopping at "accept-all", Domailfix shows Likely valid or Risky with a confidence score, and the Email X-ray explains the result. People who have left the company are marked Undeliverable with proof.
Send catch-all addresses carefully
- Send them in a separate, smaller batch.
- Start with the highest confidence scores.
- Watch your bounces, and stop if they climb.
- Feed the bounces back so future checks are more accurate.
Never let catch-all addresses make up most of a cold campaign. Mix them with confirmed addresses.
FAQ
What is a catch-all email domain?
A domain whose mail server accepts messages for every address, real or not. It is also called accept-all.
Can any tool fully verify a catch-all address?
No tool can prove a single mailbox exists from the server alone, because the server says yes to everything. Good tools use other signals to estimate how likely it is.
Are catch-all addresses charged in Domailfix?
Yes, 1 credit like any answer. Results marked Unknown are free.
