What is an Email X-ray?

5 min read

Quick answer

An Email X-ray splits an email address into the person part (before the @) and the company part (after the @), and shows what was found about each, together with a clear status and a confidence score from 0 to 100. You see why an address got its result, not just the result.

Most email checkers give you one word: valid, invalid, risky or unknown. That word is useful, but it does not tell you why. When a result says "risky", should you send or not? The Email X-ray answers that question.

The two halves of every email address

Every email address has two parts, and each part can go wrong in its own way:

  • The person part, before the @. Is this really how the company writes this person's address? Does the person still work there?
  • The company part, after the @. Does the domain exist? Can it receive mail? Does it accept every address, real or not?

An Email X-ray checks both halves separately and lists what it found under each one, in plain words.

What you see in an Email X-ray

For the person, you might see:

  • The name matches the company's email format (for example first.last).
  • The person works at the company, or has left it, with a link to the public proof.
  • The address is a personal mailbox, not a shared team inbox like sales@.

For the company, you might see:

  • Which email provider the company uses.
  • Whether the company accepts mail for every address (a catch-all domain).
  • How addresses at this company have behaved before.

Each line is marked green, amber or red, so you can read the X-ray in a few seconds.

Why the reasons matter

A one-word answer hides the most useful part. Two addresses can both be "risky" for completely different reasons: one because the company accepts every address, the other because the mailbox is full. You would treat them differently. The X-ray shows the difference.

If a result surprises you, read the X-ray. It almost always explains the answer in one line.

The confidence score

Next to the X-ray you get a score from 0 to 100. Above 80 is a strong answer, 50 to 80 means likely but not proven, and below 50 means take care before you send. The score turns many small signals into one number you can sort and filter by.

FAQ

Is the Email X-ray only in Domailfix?

Yes. The Email X-ray is Domailfix's own way of showing results: the person part and the company part of the address, each with what was found.

Does an Email X-ray send an email to the address?

No. No message is ever sent, so the person you check is never contacted.

Does the Email X-ray cost extra?

No. Every email check includes the X-ray. Checking an address uses 1 credit, and Unknown results are free.
